Upcycle Craft: Old Books and Blots

A fun for all ages craft for you (and yours) as the winter months send us indoors and cabin fever tries to get the better of us.

Handmade gifts truly come from the heart and therefore connect personally. After a year of lock downs, losses and hardships, it is gifts like these that help us heal.

MATERIALS

  • Old book pages

  • Cardstock paper

  • Acrylic paints

  • Decoupage (day·koo·paazh) glue

  • Fine point permanent marker

GET READY! GET SET! CREATE!

STEP1

Take a piece of old book paper and add a bloop, blop, blob or streak of paint in whatever order (or way) you like.

STEP 2

Carefully fold your paint covered book paper "hot-dog" style or "hamburger" style. Gently press so the paint spreads out under the fold. Once that's done, open the paper back up and marvel at your creation!

STEP 3

Have a snack, pet your cat, call a friend because this creation needs to DRY.

STEP 4

Is it dry? Are you absolutely sure? When you touch it, does your finger come back with paint on it? No? Excellent. Now, look at it. What do you see in your ink blot art? Do you see an alien or prehistoric reptile? There is no wrong image! Whatever you see is unique and all yours. Use your permanent markers (and or paint pens) to define your creation.

STEP 5

Time to fold your cardstock into a card or leave it flat for wall art. Then apply decoupage glue to the back of your creation and stick it to the cardstock.

STEP 6

Seal/protect your creation by adding decoupage glue to the top of it. Don't worry, it will dry clear :)

FINAL STEP

After your glue is dry, customize to your heart's desire! Then frame it or throw it into an envelope for a friend.
